The Dollhouse came back for a second season, but will it come back for a third?

We have some nice plot development as expected. You have some nice character development as well with Echo especially. We now know that no one ever truly leaves the Dollhouse, unless you count Alpha. We also now know that the Dollhouse has politicians in their pockets and they have bigger plans than just filling fantasy, which is nice to see.

We now for the first time had a peek at another Dollhouse and were introduced to some of the characters in that location. In all the episodes are getting better, but I feel that this show does miss out on some of the pacing of some of Joss Whedon’s other shows. I also personally miss the rip roaring humour that has been a trademark of many of his other shows.

I would like to see more plot and character development. I think they made good use of Victor in the most recent episode and I would like to see more of that continue. All in all the Dollhouse is a good show, but it’s a show that you have to watch to stay tuned in and aware of what is happening. It’s not a one episode here and there like other shows. I think with the Dollhouse you either get it or you don’t. The question is how many will get it?

This movie picks up right where Twilight left off. With some new characters added to the mix to spice things up. The story is one of loss, losing yourself, and then finding yourself. There is lot’s of heartbreak, growth, up’s and downs. Some characters win and some lose, but it takes you deeper and deeper into the series.

For anyone who likes Vampires, Werewolves, and creatures that go bump in the night this movie is for you. The Stephanie Meyer’s series has fans from across the globe rediscovering and falling into the fokelore that captures each generation anew.

The cast and characters are all beautifully suited to the storyline and the author has made the character completely relevant for this day and age.

This new series is great. It has all the charm of the previous series, but lot’s of new twists and turns that make it relevant for this time period.

For those not familiar with the series it was about the fascist take over of the earth by these creepy aliens. A resistance was started and the rest is T.V. history.

I am really glad to say the new series lives up to the expectation of the old series and then some. You have a lot of the old plot, but new twists, such as the fact that the aliens have been on earth for years. You don’t know who they are, they could be anyone. You still have the Visitors being a threat to humanity and the humans slowly waking up to that fact and starting a resistance.

The new series throws a lot of modern relevance and it’s worth catching if you have not yet seen it.

If you have not seen the movie here is your second chance, the DVD is out in December and it’s worth watching. The half blood prince sees the characters going through a lot of changes and challenges.

It has some new ties being formed, some villains revealed, and some loses along the way. This movie is great preparation for the final film which should be out in theaters next year.

If you have not caught up on Harry Potter and crew, take the time to do so now.

Characters without character

I was watching the Dollhouse and trying to figure out why this show might or might not succeed. One of the neat things about the show is that it is written by Joss Whedon, which is a plus.

The problem with the show where it might fail is that you have characters without character. Not to say you don’t get lot’s of personality with this show, because you do, but you have some main characters who’s personalities are wiped at the end of every episode, so it’s hard to establish who the characters true personalities are vs their imprints.

Echo is the main character and though we see her with many different imprints at the end of the day that is all that they are, they are just imprints that get wiped at the end of the episode. This is true for at least two other key characters Victor and Seirra. We like them and want to like them, but at the end of the day, it’s hard to get a true sense of who they are.

We see character growth and development with the people around them such as Dewitt, Ballard, which is great. We get a better sense of who is who, and what each is capable of, but with mind controlled dolls, it’s hard to know who is the essential character, vs what is just an imprint.

We saw this tested in episode six with Millie who we later learn is November and we are left to wonder who the true Millie is? If she is just an imprint then it’s hard to decide if you like or dislike the character because at the end of the day, you do not know who the true essential being is.

I think this show overall has a lot of potential, but I think the challenge unlike other shows will be selling us main characters who primarily do not get to have characters of their own, something that is vital to the development and growth of a series.

I want to welcome all new members to the forum and the fiction section of Scribes Corner.

Lastly thanks to heroes we have a variety of superpowers all over the place, the most interesting in my opinion being the ability to time travel. So do you believe these types of time travelers exist?

A new generation

I saw the movie and I really liked it. I think twilight is a new kind of vampire movie for a different kind of generation. When I think of vampire movies of the past that really stood out this is nothing like any of them. It’s no interview with the vampire, Dracula, Underworld, or even your Buffy type of vampires, and yet on some level this teen flick works.

The characters are likeable, the plot is interesting but not overly intense. What makes this movie and the concept work for me is the fact that you have a vampire family unit that really works and who generally care about each other, watch out for each other, and who look out for each others best interests. Top that up with the fact that they cook pasta when the human comes over for dinner, and you have a cute sure fire hit for a new generation.

The romance between Edward and Bella is sweet, it’s respectful, and it’s uncommon from what we see in much of today’s society and teen romance portrayed on television.

The setting is also unusual, in that it takes place in what some would consider almost the middle of nowhere, well not exactly, but unlike most vampire movies that take place in some major metropolitan, this movie does not, and I think that adds a nice fresh approach, and feel.

Overall I really liked this movie, it’s one that I would watch again, and I think the series will be interesting to follow on film and see how the characters grow and develop.

Did I fall asleep?

I love the concept for the new series. For those not familiar with dollhouse. The concept is about people who have memories implanted into their minds and then they go out and fulfill whatever mission they are programmed for. They could be programmed to be someone’s romantic partner, an assassin, a hero, etc. Once the mission is finished they go back to the Dollhouse, and all their memories are erased, until it’s time for the next mission.

Sounds far fetched right? The technology exists right now for creating characters such as this, and individuals that can be thus controlled. An ad came out the other day saying that bad memories will soon be a thing of the past, think sunshine of the spotless mind.

Even if the concept sounds scary, it’s very much a real possibility, and I look forward to seeing Joss and team tangle this sort of concept in typical Joss fashion.

Heading up the cast are two former favs. Amy Acker, and Eliza Dushku. The show started Feb 13, 2009, and has been approved for 13 episodes.

five by five

There have been a few remakes. Terminator the series came out since the last time people were at Scribes Corner. For years I had hoped that they would find a way to do this, and I guess they did.

The new V series is due out I think next year. I really liked the original series and it will be good to see it back on the air.

Joss Whedon creator of BTVS created the comic books, and now he also has a new series called Dollhouse with Eliza Dushku (Faith) and a few other cast members.

So it seems that if you give it time, some of your old favorites do come back in one capacity or another.

Scribes’ Corner started several years ago, and it was primarily a Buffy The Vampire Slayer website.

We still feature a great Buffy section with some great pictures and stories, but we now offer even more.
